    Melchior Hanecroot werd in 1703 als kandidaat beroepen te Oosterhaule, waar hij tot 1707 werkzaam was. Daarna verbond hij zich aan de gemeente van Cornjum, die hij diende tot zijn dood. Hij werd in 1721 gecommitteerd tot het nazien der autographa van de Statenoverzetting. Men vindt van hem een Latijns gedicht achter de Dissertatio jurid. phil. de testamento Julii Caesaris quod Suetonius refert in ejus vita cap. 83 (Franeq. 1700), onder leiding van prof. Zacharias Huber verdedigd Mei 1700 door U. Aylva van Burmania. Zijn zoon Gerardus, geb. 1697 te Cornjum, overl. 4 Apr. 1776, was predikant te Finkum c.a. (1729-76).

    Op zijn graf in de kerk van Cornjum staat de volgende tekst: "Ao 1751 den 1 juny is in den Heere gerust den eerwaarden godsaaligen en welgeleerden hr dony Melchior Hanechroot in leeven getrouw bedienaar des goddelyken woords alhier tot Cornium in den ouderdom van ruym 73 iaaren ende legdt alhier begraven."
