    Volgens Abel Tasma uit Hoogkerk, naar eigen zeggen een nazaat van de ontdekkingsreiziger Abel Tasman, was Oemke Renkema de stamvader van de familie Tassema (Tasma of Tasman). Dat is niet helemaal juist. De stamvader van de familie Tassema is Reiner Taekens. Diens zoon Taecke Reynders Tassema trouwde met Jauke Renkema, een dochter van Oemke Renkema. Begin 1969 werd op de borg Nienoord in Leek een kist met archiefstukken gevonden, waarin de herkomst van de Tasma's, Tassema's en de Tasmans werd beschreven. Ook heeft Wigbolt Vleer archiefonderzoek naar deze familie gedaan.
