Hij trouwde met Ybeltje Jans Hemrica en het gezin kreeg 5 dochters en 4 zonen. Hij was een fanatiek propagandist van de Sociaal Democratische Bond in de noordelijke provincies. In Friesland veel Multatulianen onder de democraten en voorvechters van kiesrecht. Toen de kiesrechtbeweging hem te gematigd bleek, werd hij medeoprichter van de SDB. Hij nodigde al snel F. Domela Nieuwenhuis uit. Later verbrak de SDB de banden met de Friese Volkspartij onder protest van veel Friese socialisten. Giezen was een geliefd spreker. Hij hekelde P.J. Troelstra die geprobeerd had de Friese Volkspartij een sociaal-democratisch karakter te geven zonder het revolutionaire van de SDB.Giezen bestreed het partijfanatisme van de SDAP. Hij vocht voor het vrije socialisme: anarchistisch, tegen eigendom (communistisch), tegen gezag en voor gerechtigheid en vrijheid. Hij hield vurige toespraken tegen oorlog en drankmisbruik.Samen met zijn broer Jan Giezen voerde hij in heel Friesland en Groningen actie voor het echte revolutionaire socialisme. Ook zijn zusters Anna en Jitske waren actief voor het socialisme. Zijn jongste broer Chris vluchtte naar Amerika om gevangenisstraf wegens opruiing te ontlopen.

Hij koos ook partij voor de gebroeders Hogerhuis die ten onrechte voor een inbraak waren veroordeeld. In het dagelijks bestaan ging het hem niet voor de wind. Hij was koopman. In 1899 overwoog hij te emigreren. Zijn medestanders hielden een inzameling en Domela Nieuwenhuis drong erop aan dat hij bleef.

Ik heb een kopie van de huwelijksakte: Wilhelmus is koopman en woont in Leeuwarden. Zijn ouders leven nog en zijn aanwezig. Ijbeltje is dienstbode en haar ouders zijn aanwezig en wonen in Leeuwarden. Haar vader staat hier vermeld als visser. De afkondigingen van het huwelijk waren zonder verhindering op de vierde zondag van oktober en op de eerste zondag van november om 12 uur.
De getuigen zijn allemaal werkzaam op de secretarie van Leeuwarden. Jan Lutje Beerenbroek, 35/ Bernardus van Weemen van Noord, 57/ Johannes Frederik Hijlins, 41. Deze drie zijn beambten. Verder is aanwezig de gemeentebode: Casper Habekottee, 57.

Notes about IJbeltje Jans Hemrica

IJbeltje groeide op tot een mooie vrouw en werkte al jong als dienstbode. Toen haar baas haar in de keuken in haar billen kneep, sloeg ze hem tegen de grond. Haar bazin wilde haar niet geloven en IJbeltje liep het huis uit. Haar broers hebben later haar loon nog opgehaald en deelden de bazin mee dat haar man maar beter uit hun buurt kon blijven. Het geld werd besteed aan biertjes (toen 5 cent voor een biertje) want IJbeltje wilde het geld toch niet. Ze had haar trots! IJbeltje accepteerde in een andere dienst niet dat ze in plaats van jus, water kreeg ("Gooit u dat maar over de bloemen") en vertrok weer, maar nu pas na om haar loon gevraagd tehebben. Na haar huwelijk kwam haar broer Wieger er graag op bezoek, want het was een heel gezellig gezin en haar man verdiende goed. Een zoon van IJbeltje had een meubelzaak op de Voorstreek in Leeuwarden.
