De zoon Henricus Wilhelmus Maria (burgemeester gemeente Oost-Gelre (2005-2013), burgemeester gemeente Bussum (van 02-07-2013 tot 19-05-2015) is verwikkeld geraakt in een fraudezaak.

Zoon Henricus Wilhelmus Maria is door de Commissaris van de Koning Noord-Holland (Johan Remkes) per 19 mei 2015 op non-actief gesteld hangende de uitkomst van een door deze ingesteld integriteitsonderzoek wegens vermeend indienen van onterechte declaraties, valsheid in geschrifte, fraude en oplichting. Het integriteitsonderzoek naar Henricus werd afgedwongen door de Bussumse oppositiepartijen Hart voor Bussum (HvB), de Gooise Ouderenpartij (GOP) en de Partij voor Bussum. De opdracht tot het onderzoek is verstrekt aan Prof. Marcel Pheiffer werkzaam als forensisch accountant verbonden aan het Nijenrode Instituut te Breukelen.

Op 11 juni 2015 heeft zoon Henricus zijn ontslag ingediend bij Koning Willem-Alexander.

Op 20 juni 2016 stelde het Tuchtcollege Zwolle de klagers (oppositiepartijen) op een aantal punten in het gelijk. Alhoewel geen van de op fraude duidende declaraties door Prof. Pheiffer zijn beoordeeld (zelfs niet zijn opgevraagd bij de gemeente Bussum en derhalve niet kónden worden beoordeeld) oordeelde het College dat sprake zou zijn geweest was van een fraude van 'geringe' omvang ('slechts' ca. € 1.000). Zoon Henricus werd niet bestraft.

De oppositiepartijen hebben hoger beroep ingesteld (op grond van de opmerkelijk nalatige werkwijze van Prof. Pheiffer) tegen de uitspraak (in eerste aanleg) van het Tuchtcollege.

In maart 2017 heeft een gemeenteraadslid van de gemeente Oost-Gelre raadsvragen gesteld over (opnieuw) een vermeende fraude en valsheid van geschrifte begaan door zoon Henricus Wilhelmus Maria tijdens diens burgemeesterschap aldaar. De fraude zou blijken uit door het gemeenteraadslid via een WOB-procedure (Wet Openbaarheid Bestuur) verkregen declaraties.
