Notes about Franciscus Johannes Nuijens-

geb. 21-12-1835 in Schermerhorn, ovl. 07-05-1930 in Boxmeer, gekerstend RK, ref. nr. V/A16, van beroep geneeskundige.

Na zijn gymnasiale opleiding studeerde hij aan de Klinische School te Hoorn Hij werd op 11-07-1856 tot heelmeester en op 11-12-1856 tot vroedmeester voor het platteland bevorderd. Hij vestigde zich hierna als geneesheer te De Rijp, waar hij van

1856-1869 zijn praktijk uitoefende. Van 1869-1886 was hij geneesheer te Zevenhoven, van 1886-1906 geneesheer te Ter Aar en van 1906-1930 geneesheer te Sambeek bij Boxmeer.

 

In het jaar 1869 promoveerde hij te Leuven op stellingen tot Doctor in de medicijnen.

 

In het jaar 1906 vierde hij te Ter Aar zijn 50-jarig jubileum als arts. Op 11-07-1926 vierde hij te Boxmeer zijn 70-jarig jubileum als arts.

 

Zijn belangstelling richtte zich vooral op geschiedenis, vooral ook de geschiedenis van de pausen, maar hij had ook open oog voor sociale en politieke vraagstukken.

 

Hij schreef - meest anonieme - publicaties in de pers, vooral in de jaren 1890-1900. Hij bepleitte in een drietal artikelen reeds in 1891 de oprichting van een Katholieke Universiteit.
