    De Familie Maidman is van Engelse oorsprong. De eerste Maidman,Richard was geboren in Engeland en vestigde zich eerst te Tapanoeli.Hij kan geboren zijn rond 1790 en hij overleed te Tjilatjap op Java in1876. Eerst woonde hij jaren in Tapanoeli. Daar zijn de eerste 5kinderen geboren. Na zijn verhuizing naar Padang zijn er nog 6kinderen geboren. door het grote aantal nakomelingen is ook dezefamilie later erg uitgebreid. Ze zijn verwant aan de familiesTheuvenet en Williams, beide Padangsche families. De meeste personenvan deze naam hadden bescheiden betrekkingen, zoals opzichter derwegen (wegmandooer), employe bij de opiumregie. Een paar van henwerden onderofficier bij het leger. Een enkele was officier. Op Javadienden zij meestal bij de spoorwegen en bij de dienst der douane (in-uitvoerrechten)

    The family Maidman came from England. Richard Maidman was born in England and settled in Tapanoeli and died in Tjilatjap on Java in 1876. When he lived in Tapanoeli they had five children, After they moved to Padang, a further six children were born. Most members of the family had simple jobs, e.g. overseeyer of roadworks (wegmandoer), emoplyee at the opium trade. Several joined the army. On Java most worked for the railways or with customs and excise.
