    Als stadhouder (1507-1511) vertegenwoordigde FlorisdeHabsburgse regering in die delen van Gelre diezijbeheerste. In 1515 werd hij de eerste stadhoudervanFriesland.

    Floris was tevens legerleider: in 1523 werd hijalsbevelhebber van een Nederlands leger aangesteld datsamenmet Engelse troepen Frankrijk zou binnenvallen. In1536 wasFloris kapitein-generaal van het leger datopereerde in hetnoorden van de Lage Landen.
