    Catootje werd geboren in het dorp Mary´s Hope, resortWelgelegen in het district Coronie, Suriname. Mary´s Hopebegon als een katoenplantage in 1817 door Edward Conollyuit Ierland. Deze plantage telde in 1827 al 1.000 akkers en138 slaven bij de afschaffing van de slavernij in 1863. Delaatste eigenaar was Thomas Green. In 1874 werd de plantagegeschonken aan de R.K.-missie.

    Op 24 nov 1861 werd haar vrijheid verzocht door T. Green.
    Carstairs was de eigenaar van plantage Caledonia en dus denaamgever van de daar geboren kinderen van slaven. Laterwerd de naam verbasterd tot Karsters.
