    Scherpenisse is een dorp in de gemeente Tholen indeNederlandse provincie Zeeland. Scherpenisse vormde tot1971een zelfstandige gemeente. Na de gemeentelijkeherindeling ressorteerde het voortaan onder voornoemdegemeente.Scherpenisse ligt westelijk van Poortvliet enoostelijk vanSint Maartensdijk.
    Het dorp telde in 2002 1700 inwoners. De voormaligegemeente heeft een oppervlakte van 10,25 km². De gemeenteomvatte Scherpenisse, Westkerke en Gorishoek.

    Het dorp werd in 1252 voor het eerst genoemd; in 2002vierdemen zijn 750-jarig bestaan. In 1816 wordt de dan nogjongegemeente Westkerke opgeheven en bij Scherpenissegevoegd.
    In Scherpenisse staat de vervallen korenmolen DeKorenbloemuit 1872.

    Vrije Hervormde Gemeente Deze gemeente ontstond in1996doordat de predikant van de Hervormde Gemeente teScherpenisse, J. van der Sleen met een aantal gemeenteledenzich onttrok aan de Nederlandse Hervormde Kerk.
