    Bosch was lid van de familie Bosch en een zoon van dekoopman Theodorus Gerardus Bosch (1726-1802) en Corneliavan Bijleveld (1746-1823). In 1829 werd hij verheven in deNederlandse adel. Hij trouwde in 1797 met Henriëtte Hofmann(1775-1839). Uit dit huwelijk werden negen kinderengeboren, onder wie jhr. mr. Frederik Lodewijk Herbert JanBosch van Drakestein.
    Paulus Wilhelmus Bosch kocht in 1806 Drakestein en noemdezich vervolgens Bosch van Drakestein. In het begin van hunhuwelijk woonde het echtpaar Bosch op Voorstraat 85-87 teUtrecht. Vanaf circa 1812 woonde het gezin Bosch opJanskerkhof 17 te Utrecht.

    Bosch studeerde Romeins en hedendaags recht. Hij wasvroedschap (1808-), adjunct-maire (1811) en maire vanUtrecht (1812-1813) en van 1814 tot 1830 lid van deProvinciale Staten van Utrecht.

    De familie Bosch is verdeeld in twee takken, die zich naarde heerlijkheden in hun bezit vernoemden:
    - Bosch van Oud Amelisweerd (uitgestorven in 1988).
    - Bosch van Drakestein.
    (Drakestein werd door de familie Bosch in 1955 verkocht aanprinses Beatrix der Nederlanden.)
