    Noordgouwe is een van de jongste dorpenvanSchouwen-Duiveland. Tot de veertiende eeuw lag er opdezeplek een water, de Gouwe, dat door schepen van ennaarZierikzee gebruikt werd. In die tijd verzandde hetechteren in 1374 werd de noordelijke tak van deGouweingepolderd. Het dorp ontstond enige eeuwen later.

    Tot 1961 vormde Noordgouwe een eigen gemeente, daarnaheefthet tot 1997 bij de gemeente Brouwershaven gehoord.

    Noordgouwe is een ringdorp, een echtSchouwsplattelandsdorp. Midden in het dorp staat de kerkmet degracht en sfeervolle, oude huizen er omheen.
