Hendrik Hamhuis verhuist van Stad Hardenberg naar Getelo/Uelsen in Duitsland waar hij op 6 juni1904 trouwt met Fenna Rutttgers en vestigt zich aan wat thans het adres Grenzweg 1 in Getelo is. Dit is het ouderlijk huis van de Duitse tak van de Hamhuizen Dit hele gebied bestond in die tijd nog uit heidevelden die met grote inspanning ontgonnen werden tot cultuurgrond.
De 2 jongste zonen van Hendrik Hamhuis namelijk Hindrik Jan en Friedrich verhuisden later naar Hengelo in Twenthe. De andere 6 kinderen bleven in Getelo en omgeving.
