Wilhelmus Adrianus Josephus Berkelmans werd geboren te Tilburg op 31 maart 1912. Hij was getrouwd met Maria Gerarda Hamers en werkzaam op de afdeling bevolking van de gemeentesecretarie van Tilburg. Hij nam deel aan het illegaal verzet, hoofdzakelijk door het verstrekken van valse identiteitspapieren. Hij behoorde tot de groep waartoe ook Verbunt en Van Spaendonck behoorden. Berkelmans was ook betrokken bij de overval op de kluis van de afdeling bevolking te Tilburg op 25 januari 1944. Zijn plaats werd op het laatste moment overgenomen door Huib Simons, aangezien hij kort voor de overval een mislukte aanslag doet op de NSB-agent Gerrits en moest onderduiken. Enige tijd later werd hij gearresteerd en naar het kamp Haaren (vlgs de familie naar Kamp Vught) overgebracht. Hij stierf voor het vuurpeloton ergens in de Loonse en Drunense Duinen, samen met nog dertien andere verzetsmensen, waaronder Verbunt (> Henri Verbuntstraat) en Van Spaendonck (> Rob van Spaendonckstraat) op26 mei 1944.Ondanks diverse verwoede pogingen, zelfs met geavanceerde apparatuur van het leger, zijn hun lichamen nooit gevonden. In het gemeentehuis van Tilburg is een herdenkingsplaquette aangebracht ter nagedachtenis aan Wim Berkelmans.
Voor de veertien slachtoffers van deze gruwelijke executie is in 2005 op initiatief van de Joannes Antonius van Spaendonck Stichting een gedenkteken opgericht aan de Oude Bosschebaan in Udenhout.
