Werd naar het gymnasium in Luik gestuurd, waar hij een Franse opvoeding genoot. Naast Frans, Duits en Engels sprak hij ook Zweeds en Rusisch. Vanuit Luik ging hij naar Rhenen om het tabaksvak op de proefvelden van de Hollandse tabakplantagesin Medan (Oost Indie) te leren. In juli 1894 verhuisde de familie Hamers naar de Lind in Oisterwijk op advies van de dokter. Alphons zusje Johanna had zwakke longen en kon daarom het beste in een bosrijke omgeving gaan wonen.

Zaterdag is bij de N.V. Nederl. Sigarenfabriek „De Huifkar" (Hamers en Co.) aan een 26-tal sigarenmakers ontslag aangezegd. Het personeel bedraagt thans nog circa 20 man. Alle zijn inwoners.
