Notes about Willem Hakkert

Willem Hakkert was eigenaar van bierbrouwerij "De Wijnberg" in Rhenen

Het is niet bekend hoelang brouwerij De Wijnberg, op de hoek van de Rijnstraat en de Visscherstraat in Rhenen, al bestond toen ze in 1806 door de burgemeestersfamilie Menso werd verkocht aan de familie Budding.

Willem Budding, die samen met Hendrik Menso in de gemeenteraad van Rheden zat, had in de jaren 1830 een productie van 700-800 vaten per jaar. Hij deed de brouwerij in 1837 over aan Jan Rijerse van Schenkhof. Na diens overlijden in 1848 werd Mattheus Jacobus van Hengelaar de nieuwe eigenaar, drie jaar later, naar verluid, gevolgd door Crommelin en Cornelis Kruithof.

In 1860 werd de in werking zijnde en goed beklante bierbrouwerij en annexe logeable huizinge verkocht aan Roelof van de Waal. Hij werd in 1875 opgevolgd door Willem Hakkert. Willem Hakkert deed in 1882 een aanbesteding voor de bouw van een nieuwe brouwerij. De nieuwe brouwerij stond even buiten Rhenen, aan den grooten weg van Rhenen naar Utrecht.

Na het overlijden van Willem Hakkert in 1886 zette zijn weduwe, Jannette Lucia van Diggelen, de zaak voort. Zij adverteerde dat in de Rhenensche Bierbrouwerij De Wijnberg, prima gerste- dubbel gerste en princesse-bier werd geleverd.

De voor weinige jaren nieuw gebouwde bierbrouwerij met mouterij, kelders, schuur en paardenstalling werd in 1901 te koop aangeboden. Vermoedelijk is De Wijnberg datzelfde jaar nog opgeheven.
