Jos begon haar verpleegkundige opleiding in Baarn. Maar door heimwee en de ziekte van haar vader in 1962 stopte zij. Vanaf 1-10-1965 tot 29-10-1968 deed zij de opleiding tot Verpleegkundige A in het Militair Hospitaal Dr.A.Mathijsen in Utrecht. Hierna ging zij naar het Lucas ziekenhuis in Amsterdam om haar "Ooievaartje" halen op 1-4-1969. Hierna kwam zij in het Lucas te werken op de afdeling Intensive Care, ze werd hoofd van deze afdeling en haalde haar diploma Special Care op 28-6-1977. Later werd zij Hoofdverpleegkundige op A4 in het Lucasziekenhuis in Amsterdam tot ca 2006.
