Mijn moeder, Leny Gruendeman, werd op 5 januari 1924 op de Hoge Woerd in Leiden geboren. (Sterfdatum: 10 augustus 2002)
Later verhuisde het gezin naar de Wasstraat 37 in Leiden. Ze speelde daar in de weilanden, achter het huis en hield van bomen klimmen. Ze was toen een beetje stoer en jongensachtig.
Ook had ze een kip, Groenoogje, die ze liefdevol – in haar poppenwagen toedekte - met een dekentje, waarop ze een steen legde tegen het wegfladderen van de kip.
Dit heeft Groenoogje uiteraard niet overleefd.
Toen ze naar de vierde klas van de lagere school ging, verhuisden ze naar de Grote Markt in Haarlem, waar ze naast de familie Brinkmann kwamen te wonen.
Opa Jan Gruendemann was werkzaam als bedrijfsleider bij kledingzaak Kreymborg aan de Grote Markt, waarboven het gezin ook kwam te wonen.
Beide families konden goed met elkaar opschieten. Opa en oma waren mijn peetouders. Opa hield van lekker eten en ik kan me herinneren, dat hij wekelijks bij ons thuis dineerde en heel erg van oesters hield.

Na de lagere school ging mijn moeder Leny, naar de MMS Sancta Maria. Ze blonk uit in gymnastiek en ze kon goed tekenen.
Na de MMS deed ze de verpleegstersopleiding en de kraam bij het Onze Lieve Vrouw Gasthuis in Amsterdam.
Toen ze haar opleiding had afgerond, wilde ze eigenlijk nog operatiezuster worden, maar dat is er niet meer van gekomen.
Ze gaf zich op bij de wijkverpleging en kort daarop werd ze benaderd door Joop Brinkmann – haar buurman en later onze vader – omdat hij voor zijn vrouw (Nel Huizing) verpleegkundige hulp nodig had. Ze heeft dit opgepakt. Na het overlijden van mijn vaders eerste vrouw, zorgde ze voor het gezin en op 8 september 1949 traden mijn vader (Joop Brinkmann) en mijn moeder (Leny Gruendemann) met elkaar in het huwelijk. Na mijn vaders overlijden, ging mijn moeder parttime werken, Frans studeren, sporten en musiceren. Ze las ook graag en veel (literatuur)

Mijn vader, Joop Brinkmann, werd op 6 april 1906 op de Grote Markt in Haarlem geboren. (Sterfdatum s.v.p. corrigeren. Deze is: 19 februari 1967)
Hij deed de Hogere Hotelvakschool in Zwitserland en werd daarna directeur van Cafe Restaurant Gebroeders Brinkmann aan de Grote Markt in Haarlem, waar we boven woonden.
In zijn vrije tijd, viste hij graag. Na mijn vaders overlijden, verhuisden we naar Heemstede.

Uit het huwelijk van mijn ouders werden nog 4 kinderen geboren:

Maria Brinkmann, geb: 13 september 1950, Grote Markt 9 te Haarlem
Beroep: docent volwasseneneducatie en holistisch therapeut (psychosociaal, lichaamsgericht en spiritueel )

Jan- Joost Brinkmann, geb: 24 januari 1952, Grote Markt 9 te Haarlem
Beroep: huisarts

Annemieke Brinkmann, geb: 22 december 1953, Grote Markt 9 te Haarlem
Beroep: docent basisonderwijs en gedragsspecialist

Wim Brinkmann, geb: 2 maart 1956, Grote Markt 9 te Haarlem
Beroep: oracle dba
