Piet was een Zuid Afrikaanse generaal tijdens de Eerste en Tweede Boerenoorlog.
Piet Groot moest 40 paarden door de Engelse linie brengen, maar werd overvallen en kreeg een kogel in zijn been.
Ook Piet Cronjé kreeg een kogel in zijn been.
