Notes about Gerrit Willem Grimmerink
Na overlijden moeder Jenna Kleijans (1892) is Gerrit Willem in huis genomen bij zijn tante in Den Velde. Dit is waarschijnlijk tante Antje geweest, haar man Gerrit Grimmerink was in 1883 overleden, daar kon GW als jonge knecht zoon Jan Hendrik best helpen.
Op 16-12-1898 moet Gerrit Willem in dienst. Hij is ingeloot (lotnr. 8) en wordt op 7-03-1899 ingelijfd bij het 5e regiment Infanterie. Op een foto, genomen tijdens een kamp in Milligen, sept. 1899, zien we hem zitten samen met luitenant Valewink in een (witte) legertent. Op 07-08-1900 is zijn diensttijd ten einde, zijn zakboekje (militair paspoort) is dan ingeleverd bij de gemeente Stad Hardenberg. (melding correspondentie-extract gemeente-archief Hardenberg)
Hij moet zich regelmatig (op 25-07-1902, 14-04-1904 en 05-06-1906) als verlofganger bij zijn korps in Amersfoort melden. Op 1-08-1907 ingedeeld bij het 10e bataljon Landweer (bron: lotingsregister), waar hij zich in 1908 in Utrecht moet melden bij de 2e Comp. Landweerplichtigen, 10e bataljon. (bron: Extracten correspondentie Gramsbergen nr. 1073)
Gerrit Willem trouwt op 31-03-1910 met Dina Veurink uit Heemse, beiden waren gereformeerd. Dina kwam kerkelijk uit een gezin dat mee was gegaan met de afscheiding (A-richting), Gerrit Willem was met de doleantie meegegaan (B-richting)
Op 23-04-1910 (pas getrouwd) zijn Gerrit Willem en Dina naar Den Ham vertrokken. (ingeschreven 25-04-1910 in bevolkingsregister Den Ham, GW komt uit Gramsbergen en Dina uit Ambt Hardenberg) Ze wonen in 'Het Hekmans', een pachtboerderij(tje) van het landgoed de Rohorst, eigendom van de dames Bakker. Op 23-04-1910 gaat vanuit Den Ham een kennisgeving naar Gramsbergen dat "verlofganger Gerrit Willem Grimmerink, opkomend voor Stad Hardenberg, zich te Den Ham heeft gevestigd"
Het jonge stel heeft het in Den Ham slechts een kleine 2 jaar volgehouden, het bestaan was zwaar en Gerrit Willem was niet sterk, het militieregister vermeldt dat hij op 30-04-1912 wegens lichamelijke gebreken 'gepasporteerd' (eervol ontslagen) is. Ze zijn op 20-03-1912 uit Den Ham vertrokken naar Bergentheim en uitziend naar een nieuw bestaan hebben ze bijna een jaar gewoond op C65, een klein huisje aan het kanaal. Op 15-03-1913 betrokken ze een "huis met groenland in het Bruchterveld" nr. B58 (later B99, B113 en B124), een boerderijtje gelegen aan de 'onderwieke', dat ze kochten voor 2400 gulden. Het huisraad werd vervoerd per schip via het kanaal en daarna een klein stukje Bruchterwieke. Daar is een maand later Berend Jan geboren. (bevolkingsreg. Ambt Hardenberg 1910-1920 wijk C bl. 66 en wijk B bl. 57) De voorkamer, die ze eigenlijk niet nodig hadden werd verhuurd. Een van de huurders was Mans Luichies die in 1917 daar ook is overleden.
