Aangesteld als grietman van Dantumadeel op 18-2-1517; hij heeft vermoedelijk afstand gedaan in 1536.
Hij wordt in 1522 vermeld als olderman van Dokkum.
Op 27-8-1527 moest hij als grietman van Dantumadeel verschijnen voor de stadhouder om iets te doen aan de afwatering van de Woudvaart (GsvD, 128).
OFO IV-257 d.d. 4-5-1529: ruiling van aandelen/renten met Edo Martena.
In 1535 verzoekt hij als grietman om schadeloosstelling voor inwoners van Dantumadeel vanwege de afbraak van huizen in Dantumadeel t.b.v. de stadswallen van Dokkum (Gsvd, 129).
HvF 16481-581 d.d. 20-12-1536: hij procedeert tegen de kinderen van Hessel Feytsma.
Hij wordt bij R.v.A. 1540 genoemd als Mr.Syds Tjaerda met bezit in Hallum (Sythiemastate), maar ook met ander bezit daar en in Ferwerd, Reitsum en Jislum wat in 1511 behoorde aan zijn vader.
Hij testeerde te Rinsumageest als bewoner van Tjaerdastate op 25-2-1540 (F.T. 157). Zijn 8 kinderen erven, maar dochter Kinsck werd deels onterfd.
Na zijn overlijden worden zijn zwager Haring Sythiema en neef Frans Roorda voogden over zijn kinderen.

In 1540 had Syds van Tiaerda, getrouwd met Harings zuster Moed al op de state geaasd: in zijn testament van dat jaar stelde hij dat het leek dat Haring zonder kinderen zou sterven; also verhoepen myn huusfrowe ende ick dat hy dye state, te weten dat tymmert, bespreken sal een van onse soens.

Simon Wierstra:
Het commentaar bij de Friesche Testamenten voor 1550 geeft bij FT 157 aan dat Syds Tziarda eerst getrouwd was met Anna N. bij wie Mary en Kynsch en daarna met Moed Sytyema, waaruit de andere kinderen.
Het stamboek geeft in noot 18 bij Tjaerda dat volgens het Burmaniaboek de eerste vrouw Anna Fliling was.
