Hoxwiersters - Swierstra
De bewoners van de boerderij die bij de state stond werden "De Hoxwiersters" en afgekort de "xwiersters" genoemd. Deze familie heeft deze bijnaam in 1812 omgezet in de naam Swierstra.

Vermoedelijk vermeld in GPCV I d.d. febr. 1436 als jonge Asghe te Mantgum.
In OFO I-74 d.d. 10-8-1438 en in OFO II-24 d.d. 8-4-1439 wordt een Aesge te Hoxweer bij Mantgum vermeld.
Ook nog genoemd in 1441.

Van de state Hoxwier, inmiddels verschillende malen verkocht werd in 1746/1748 afgebroken.

De familie Hoxwier en haar stins verdienen nader onderzoek. Hier geef ik enkele hoofdlijnen. De traditionele genealogieën vermelden dat Heringa (Rauwerd) en Hoxwier (Mantgum) oorspronkelijk één familie waren, terugreikend tot in het begin van de 14de eeuw. De traditie wordt door verschillende andere aanwijzingen (heraldiek, voornamen, samen optreden in oorkonden) ondersteund.
Veel informatie over de Hoxwiers is te ontlenen aan het door Schotanus (1658) gepubliceerde "Tablinum". De oudste oudfriese oorkonden2956 zijn alleen uit dit Tablinum bekend en betreffen deels de familie Hoxwier en hun verwanten.
In de 16de eeuw gingen Hoxwiers studeren en vervulden ze ook elders in de Nederlanden belangrijke functies. Het huis vertoont op tekeningen uit de 18de eeuw verschillende huizen van één bouwlaag met trap- en uitzwenkende gevels. Tot het omgrachte terrein geeft een poort toegang.
Recent is op het terrein archeologisch onderzoek verricht, waarbij bewoningssporen uit verschillende perioden zijn gevonden.
