Trad op 26 april 1874 (12 jaar oud) in dienst van de Smederij Asselbergs in de Lindenbaan waar ook zijn vader reeds vanaf 1841 werkzaam was.

Op zaterdag 26 april 1924 werd zijn gouden dienstjubileum feestelijk gevierd. Dat begon met een plechtige H.Mis van dankzegging in de Parochiekerk van O.L.Vr.Hemelvaart (thans Stadsschouwburg "De Maagd"), ontvangst en huldiging op de fabriek, om 12.30 uur een gezamenlijke koffiemaaltijd in de grote zaal van het Feestgebouw "Thalia" en om 19.30 uur een feestavond eveneens in "Thalia" waaraan o.m. ook Lou Bandy medewerking verleende.
