Wim wordt geboren op 1 oktober 1920 in Strijp dat sinds dat jaar bij Eindhoven is gevoegd. Hij meldt zich voor militaire dienst bij de Koninklijke Landmacht en wordt als soldaat ingedeeld bij de grenadiers. Als vanaf het najaar van 1939 de oorlogsdreiging voor Nederland steeds verder oploopt, wordt Wim onder de wapenen geroepen en ingezet voor de verdediging van vliegveld Ypenburg bij Rijswijk.

Op 10 mei 1940 valt het Duitse leger Nederland binnen. De Luftwaffe vliegt voor de hoofdmacht uit om paratroepen naar strategische punten verderop in Zuid-Holland te brengen, zodat de Nederlandse regering en generale staf tot een snelle capitulatie kan worden gedwongen. Een van die strategische punten is vliegveld Ypenburg, waar onmiddellijk na de Duitse luchtlanding felle gevechten uitbreken om het vliegveld terug te veroveren.

Wim komt bij die gevechten op de eerste oorlogsdag om het leven. Hij is 19 jaar geworden en vindt zijn laatste rustplaats op Militair ereveld Grebbeberg. In de Waterwijk te Ypenburg herinnert de straat Koxwater aan het offer dat Wim heeft gebracht.
