On May 1, 1880 servant maid Plonia van Vliet, who resided then at the village Heerjansdam, located nearby her birthplace Barendrecht, married in Heerjansdam, province Zuid-Holland at the age of 22 years the two years older laborer Cornelis van Gemerden, who resided at his birthplace Ridderkerk. On June 12, 1887 daughter Grietje van Gemerden was born in Ridderkerk, Zuid-Holland.

On April 28, 1892 Plonia (30 years old), her husband Cornelis VanGemerden (36, farmer), and their daughters Sijgje (7) and Grietje (4) arrived on the S.S. Veendam at the port of New York, Castle Garden. Destination: Illinois."
