Fit des études universitaires en Allemagne. Remplaça son frère Adam, en 1735, à Saint-Lambert. Élu à l'unanimité, le 16 janvier 1772. Entrée solennelle le 24 mars 1772. Diacre, le 20 avril, prêtre, le 26, sacré évêque, le 3 mai, par le suffragant d'Arberg.
