Onder aan de Schuureikenweg op nummer 115 lag het café van de Tant Truut en d'r noonk Huber (werd altijd uitgesproken als: noo kubèr) (Henssen-Gerits).
Zij verkochten Brand bier dat geleverd werd in houten vaten en in houten kratten. De frisdrank kwam van Limonadefabriek Moulen uit Voerendaal.
Jan Hubert werd in 1923 overvallen door een uit het land gezette Duitser. Op 24 - 11 - 1923 stond in "Het Vaderland" het volgende artikel over deze gebeurtenis: DE ONVEILIGHEID IN HET ZUIDEN VAN LIMBURG - Een vroeger te Hoensbroek wonende, uit het land gezette Duitscher, G. genaamd, kwam in het vrij eenzaam liggend cafétje van de kleermaker Henssen, aan den Schurenberg. Hij bestelde een fleschje bier, dat de waard in de kelder moest halen. Op het oogenblik, dat de kastelein zich op de trap bevond, sprong de Duitscher op, en sloeg hem met een ijzeren stang op het hoofd. Ondanks hevig bloedverlies verloor Henssen het bewustzijn niet; hij riep luid om hulp. de aanrander vloog daarop het huis uit, doch hij werd door een paar voorbijgangers en eenige buren achtervolgd en in de beemden bij Nuth gegrepen. De man is aan de politie overgeleverd.
