    De naam Wyers, Wiers, van de Wyer enz. komen in Zuid-Limburg al vroeg voor (vgl. Verdam, Middelnederlansch Handwoordenboek: Wier, wijer, wyher: vischvijver, poel). De leden van de familie schrijven zich in de regel Wyers, maar volgens de akten van de burgerlijke stand is de naam meestal Wijers.
