      Inleiding: De genealogie naar gegevens van J.L. van Dalen, Het geslacht Wyers1941, Amsterdam 1941, en de op deze uitgave gebaseerde stamreeks in Nederland's Patriciaat, jaargang 32, bevatten veel fouten. Een grondig onderzoek in Limburg, ingesteld door J.M. van de Venne, heeft een groot aantal aanvullingen en verbeteringen opgeleverd, die nu konden worden verwerkt. Gegevens over de firma J.P. Wyers en de daatuit voortgekomen N.V. zijn ontleend aan O. van Tussenbroek, Gedenkboek 150-jarig bestaan N.V. J.P. Wyers' Industrie en Handelsonderneming, Amsterdam 1947.
      De naam Wyers, Wiers, van de Wyer enz. komen in Zuid-Limburg al vroeg voor (vgl. Verdam, Middelnederlansch Handwoordenboek: Wier, wijer, wyher: vischvijver, poel). De leden van de familie schrijven zich in de regel Wyers, maar volgens de akten van de burgerlijke stand is de naam meestal Wijers.
