Gerrit was an apprentice taylor at Leiden at a early age.In 1850 when he was 25 years old he moved to Amsterdam here he worked as a taylor. He also worked as taylor for King Willem III at Amsterdam. The family Thomas in Holland have a medal

and certificates confirming this.

He died 84 years old. They have 9 children all born in Amsterdam(reg.file nr.UU 408-1247 BS Amsterdam).
