Op donderdag 20 februari 2014 overleed pater Emiel Huysmans in het universitair ziekenhuis in Jette. Hij werd geboren in Malderen op 8 januari 1926, legde zijn eeuwige geloften af in Scheut op 8 september 1945 en werd op 6 augustus 1950 priester gewijd. Hij had een bijzondere band met het dekanaat Wemmel, waaronder de parochie Ossel valt.

Op donderdag 20 februari 2014 overleed pater Emiel Huysmans in het universitair ziekenhuis in Jette. Hij werd geboren in Malderen op 8 januari 1926, legde zijn eeuwige geloften af in Scheut op 8 september 1945 en werd op 6 augustus 1950 priester gewijd. Hij had een bijzondere band met het dekanaat Wemmel, waaronder de parochie Ossel valt.

Van 1951 tot 1979 was Emiel Huysmans werkzaam als missionaris: twintig jaar in Kongo, tien jaar in Noord- en Zuid-Amerika. Hij keerde terug naar België en werd verantwoordelijke voor de Nederlandstalige pastoraal in Schaarbeek Sint-Aleydis en Sint-Theresia (1982-1988), in Evere Sint-Jozef (1986-1994), in Schaarbeek Epifanie (1986-1994), in Jette Onze-Lieve-Vrouw van Lourdes, Sint-Pieter en Sint-Jozef Dielegem (1994-1998). In 1998 werd Emiel parochievicaris in Ruisbroek in de parochie Jan Ruusbroec en Onze-Lieve-Vrouw. In 2000 werd hij medeverantwoordelijke voor het dekenaat Wemmel, in 2001 voor het dekenaat Londerzeel, tot aan zijn dood.Emiel Huysmans was een echte missionaris. Over zijn tijd in Afrika vertelde hij graag. Hij werd door Canvas gevraagd als verteller in het programma ‘Nonkel Pater’ dat handelde over Vlaamse missionarissen.Toen hij na zijn pensioen in de streek van Wemmel terechtkwam, voelde hij zich daar snel thuis. Als geboren missionaris stond hij steeds klaar om zijn collega’s bij te springen. Hij zei daarover: “Zolang ik nog alles kan doen en de mensen me nog niet beu zijn, blijf ik me inzetten voor de gemeenschap.”De uitvaartdienst heeft plaats in Merchtem in de kerk van Sint-Jan-Baptist in Ossel, op donderdag 27 februari 2014 om 10u30.
