Bij zijn overlijden was Willem verloofd met Grietje Wuite. Willem en Grietje waren beide
onderwijzer/-es te Tijnje. Omdat Willem aan een besmettelijke ziekte overleed mocht hij niet
vervoerd worden en is daarom ook in Tijnje begraven. Grietje is later getrouwd met Piet Tilstra
en toen verhuist naar Amsterdam.
