    In Memoriam in de Bakkersbazuin:
    Op donderdag 9 september is onze vriend Evert van Veelen in de leeftijd van 36 jaar overleden. Van Veelen was één van de medeoprichters van Eendracht maak Macht, jaren lang bestuurslid en na zijn aftreden om gegezondheidsredenen bleef hij toch één der ijverigste en meest meelevende leden van de afdeling, bekend en bemind om zijn opgeruimd karakter; geen wonder dat de deelneming in zijn langdurig lijden dan ook algemeen was. Een slepende ziekete die hem ondermijnde, en na een tweetal opteraties, 10 maanden lang met veel pijn en smart deed worstelen, maakte een einde aan dit welbestede leven. Zijn jonge vrouw verliest in hem een trouwe echtgenoot, zijn kinderen een zorvolle vader, en wij een goede vriend.
    Het was dan ook een goede gedahte van het bestuur om bij zijn teraardebestelling op maandag 13 september een tweetal gedeputeerden namens de afdeing te doen tegenwoordig zijn, waar de voorzitter aan de geopende groeve hem ten voorbeeld stelde om zijn werkkracht, zjn minzaamheid, zijn hartelijkheid, zijn prachtische kijk in de dingen van dit leven, maar bovenal als oprecht Christen, wat hij zei meende hij en wat hij geloofe beleed hij. Ook de predikant Ds Von van Maassluis en zijn vroegere patroon, de heer van de Graaf, hielden een korte rede; wijze hierop, dat de Almachtige alleen vervullen kan, wat wij allen in hem verliezen. Verschillende leden van onze organisatie waren op het kerkhof aanwezig.
    Zijn nagedachtenis zal in zegening zijn.
