Bij de doopinschrijving van Simon Hendrik in het Evangelische kerkregister te
Detmold wordt de landheer graaf Simon Henrich zur Lippe vermeld als peter. Vader
Ludowich Fleury wordt hierbij als 'monsieur', als 'Papist' en als 'hiesiger tanztmeister' (dansmeester alhier) betiteld. Ondanks dat Ludowich Fleury werd vermeld als
GensNostra52(1997) 61
papist blijkt dat het nageslacht tot omstreeks 1811 gereformeerd werd gedoopt. In die
gevallen waarbij het gaat om een niet-Nederlandse gereformeerde doop, wordt dit
vermeld in de genealogische overzichten.
Het beroep dansmeester vinden wij later terug bij Simon Hendrik zelf en bij Frederik Hendrik Fleury, zeer waarschijnlijk zijn broer. Mogelijk was Ludowich Fleury
(misschien als Hugenoot met een pseudo-katholiciteit) dansmeester aan het hof van
graaf Simon Henrich zur Lippe. In de 17e- en 18e eeuw was het in Duitsland niet
ongewoon dat de landheren een Franse dansmeester hadden. Het is daarom zeer goed
mogelijk dat Ludowich Fleury rechtstreeks vanuit Frankrijk naar Duitsland is gekomen3
. Het Huis Lippe voerde namelijk (sedert de regering van graaf Herman Adolf,
1652-1666) een staatscultuur naar voorbeeld van de Franse Zonnekoning Lodewijk

. Had de graaf daarom een Franse dansmeester in dienst of had Ludowich misschien daarom zelfde familienaam (wellicht bloemachtig) 'verfranst'? Uit een aantal
theorieën over het ontstaan en de betekenis van de toponiem Fleury, is de eenvoudigste tevens de meest waarschijnlijke. Fleury is af te leiden van 'fleur' en zou betrekking
hebben op een bloeiende (florerende, florissante) plaats. Een theorie die reeds in de
Middeleeuwen werd verkondigd
