Hij trachtte de huwelikssluiting te voorkomen door de drie wettelijk vereiste afkondigingen te laten afhouden. Ewout nam dit niet. Hij verlangde een gerechtelijke uitspraak en machtigde bij akte van 2 augustius 1651 notaris Nicolaes van Bouchorst om voor hem in rechte op te treden "jegens Cleas Jansz Admirael, die de huwelijksaankondigingen probeert tegen te houden".
