      Na het overlijden van zijn ouders heeft hij tot zijn 18e jaar in een weeshuis in Breda gezeten. Daarna is hij ingetreden bij de Priesters van het H. Hart te Liesbosch bij Breda. Hij is te Asten geprofest op 8 september 1927. Op 7 april 1931 is hij vertrokken naar de Congo als missionaris. Hij gaf als leraar les op de vakscholen. Hij was bijzonder gezien in de Congo; onder zijn leiding is er veel tot stand gekomen. Broeder Damianus was begiftigd met de gouden legpenning, uitgereikt door Koning Leopold van Belgie en Congo, voor zijn verdiensten in de Congo. Na de onafhankelijkheid van Congo werd de toestand in dat land gevaarlijk, maar dat was geen reden voor hem om uit Congo te vertrekken. Op 25 november 1964 is hij op gewelddadige wijze te Stanleystad gedood. Broeder Damiaan was gedurende 33 jaar missionaris in Congo. Ieder jaar vind er in Cadier en Keer nog een herdenkingsdag plaats.
