Alias: "het rood Henske" of "het Voes" genoemd vanwege de kleur van zijn haren.


 


Joannes Cordewener wordt 'het Rood Henske' of  'het Voes' genoemd vanwege zijn rode haren. Hij wordt 16 jan. 1714 gedoopt in Heerlen als zoon van Joannes en Maria Basels, broer van Wilhelmus Cordewener*. Gezien de doopgegevens van zijn kinderen heeft hij op diverse plaatsen gewoond, Simpelveld, Kerkrade, Caumer onder Heerlen en Schaesberg. Ten tijde van het proces woont hij in Heerlerheide, van beroep dagloner en bezit een stukje land, 60 kleine roeden ofwel 0,123 ha.
Hij trouwt 3 febr. 1743 in Simpelveld met Maria Christina Koervers en tusen 1743 en 1756 zijn uit dit huwelijk vijf kinderen geboren. Zijn tweede zoon Hans Hendrik wordt ook wel genoemd als complice van de bende. Na de dood van de eerste vrouw hertrouwt Johannes 17 nov. 1759 in Heerlen met Catharina Speesen en uit dit huwelijk worden geen kinderen geboren.
In april 1773 genoemd tijdens de scherpe examens van Andries Gorné* en/of Henricus Kreijten* , arrestatie op 1 mei samen met nog negen andere mannen uit Heerlen, waaronder zijn broer. Verhoor en confrontatie met de beschuldigers 3 mei, scherp examen 8, 10 en 11 mei en dan bekent hij en beschuldigt anderen. De eis van de aanklager is afkappen van twee vingers van de rechterhand en radbraken, maar de schepenen besluiten tot een eenvoudiger vorm van doodstraf. Joannes sterft 18 mei 1773 aan de galg op de Heesberg bij Heerlen. Het was met net iets meer dan twee weken een zeer kort durend proces.
