Niantic-Thomas Patrick Broughton died peacefully in the arms of his wife, Paula, on May 20, 2016 after a long and valiant fight with liver and kidney disease brought on by Diabetes. He was surrounded by his loving family and caring Yale MICU nurses. He had been awaiting a liver and kidney transplant.

Tom was born on October 4, 1953 in New London, CT. He was the son of John P. and Jean M. (Gordijn) Broughton. He married Paula L. (Pfander) Pardee on July 19, 1980 and together they raised five wonderful children. Tom was employed at General Dynamics Electric Boat and had just received his 35 year service award. He was a RadCon instructor for many of those years. Tom loved his job and the people he worked with. His easy going ways made him memorable. His kind, gentle and caring ways will be missed by many.

He is survived by his wife, Paula, and five children, Jessica Pardee (Bruce Herring) of Rochester, NY, Aaron Broughton of Niantic, CT, Stacey Broughton (Robert Timon) of Niantic , CT , Kara Broughton of Myrtle Beach, SC. and Timothy (Alyssa) Broughton of New London, CT. He is also survived by his mother, Jean M. Broughton of Castle Rock, CO., his sister Patricia (Jeffrey) Stazick of Castle Rock, CO. and his sister, Ann Broughton (Kenneth Dahlrymple) of Barataria, LA. He also leaves his four beloved grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Also, he leaves his little sister from Hades, Jennifer (Pfander) Watkinson of Palm Bay, FL. He is predeceased by his brother, John and his father, John.

Calling hours will be Friday, May 27, at the Thomas L. Neilan Funeral Home, 48 Grand St., Niantic, from 6-8PM. Graveside services will be held at 10 am on Saturday, May 28, at the East Lyme Cemetery in Flanders.

In lieu of flowers, please consider becoming an organ donor. There is nothing greater that a person can give than the gift of life or sight. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Flanders Fish Market from 11-2 after burial.
