Notes about Hendrik van Mecklenburg-Schwerin

Wilhelmina kreeg haar eerste miskraam in 1902. Het gerucht ging dat deze miskraam het gevolg was van de geslachtsziekte syfilis van Hendrik. De koningin was geschokt en wilde haar man voorlopig niet zien. De daaropvolgende jaren nam, na nog een aantal miskramen, de spanning toe over de vraag of Wilhelmina zou zorgen voor een troonopvolger of dat de Nederlandse troon bezet zou gaan worden door een Duitse prins. Op 22 november 1908 maakte minister-president Theo Heemskerk de 'vreugdevolle aandoening' bekend. Prins Hendrik werd in 1909 vader van een dochter: Juliana. Indien zij een jongen was geweest, dan zou de naam Willem Lodewijk zijn geworden. Hendrik ontwikkelde een zeer goede verstandhouding met Juliana.
