Notes about Jan Arnoldus Koningstein

Op dinsdag 24 oktober 1882 bereikte een plotseling opgestoken storm op de Noordzee zijn hoogtepunt. Een groot deel van de vissersvloot was op zee toen de storm opstak en zij probeerden zo snel mogelijk de haven te bereiken, hetgeen de meesteschippers lukte. Den Helder haalde opgelucht adem, de vissersvloot was binnen. Doch er ontbrak één boot de Texel 3. Aanvankelijk maakt men zich nog niet zoveel zorgen. De loodsschippers kenden de Noordzee en de gronden als geen ander, hun loodsboten behoorden tot de zeewaardigste vaartuigen en het zou de eerste maal niet zijn dat van een loodsboot na een week van storm het eerste bericht telegrafisch uit Schotland kwam. Het werd anders toen in de loop van de volgende week wrakstukken van devermiste loodsboot aanspoelden bij Petten en Callantsoog. De schipper Gerrit Pieter Kaale vermeldt in het loodsjournaal van de loodskotter "Terschelling en het Vlie No. 10" We visten een ankerboei op met 12 vadem boeireep eraan, vermoedelijk van de verongelukte loodskotter No.3 van Willemsoord. Toen had men zekerheid, dat deze loodsboot nimmer meer in de haven zou terugkeren, met zijn bemanning waaronder de zeeloods Jan Arnoldus Koningstein geboren van Seelt. In naam van de Koning verklaartde Arrondissement Rechtbank te Alkmaar op 11 oktober 1888, dat het rechtsvermoede van overlijden bestaat van Jan Arnoldus Koningstein. En verleent aan Dieuwke de Groot vergunning om een nieuw huwelijk aan te gaan.
