    Vanuit deze woning verzorgde mijn overgrootmoeder per dag voor 150 mensen het eten. Er gingen dus 150 rantangs met 5 gerechten per dag door heel Menteng en Gondangdia heen. Het eten werd aan de zijkant van het huis in grote pannen bereid, ze had 2 vaste bedjakrijders in dienst die alles op tijd bezorgden. Daarnaast bakte ze ook nog eens spekkoeken, Moskovitsch, Gateau Africain en andere Indische lekkernijen op bestelling. Soms wel 100 spekkoeken per week.Het was altijd een drukte van belang.

    Kepoe Oost is een straat in Batavia gelegen in de wijk Kemajoran. Dit was een wijk waar arme indo families leefden. Zij heeft haar school gevolgd aan het Grote Klooster op Noordwijk en is op 29-04-1921 getrouwd met H.J. van Spanje.
    Hun eerste huis waar zij gingen wonen was aan de bekende Defensielijn van den Bosch 53. Het was een mooi groot oud Indisch huis met een voorgallerij en van die grote pilaren. In dit huis is zij begonnen met het maken van Indische koekjes zout en zoet voor de verkoop. Zij had ARSAN in dienst om met haar te koken en SAIRIH ging dan met de koekjes de straat op om deze te verkopen. Dit was in de jaren '20.
    In deze woning zijn alle 4 kinderen geboren waaronder mijn Oma Irma van Spanje.
    Ze zijn vanuit hier verhuisd naar een woning op Krekot en daarna Batoetoelis 29 en 39.
    Zij was een hele sterke Indische vrouw, hield altijd de touwtjes in handen . Wilde eigenlijk nooit gaan maar moest gezien de situatie toch naar Holland -Nederland.
    Mijn overgrootmoeder is in 1958 uitendelijk toch gerepatrieerd en is op 18/04/1996 in Voorschoten overleden.
    Ik ben blij dat ik haar nog lang heb mogen meemaken, heb veel geluisterd naar haar verhalen over Indie en probeer deze voor het nageslacht levend te houden.
