Notes about Bernard Ernest Hook

At age 14, Bernard came to the U.S. before his sister, Gretchen and ot her family members. He settled eventually in Buffalo Center, Iowa and a lso, lived with an Uncle Fred Hook near Grundy Center, Iowa.

In May 1896 he joined the Baptist Church at Buck Grove, Iowa. On March5 , 1897, he married Antje Krull, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Karl Krull,Pa rkersburg, Iowa. The young couple settled on a farm near Aplington wher e their only child, Ernest was born. Very shortly in May of 1898, hi s young wife died. Shortly after he moved onto a farm near Britt, Iowa . On November 23, 1899 he was married to Anna Schmidt of Steamboat Ro ck, Iowa. In the spring of 1902 Mr. and Mrs. Hook and young son Ernestm oved to a farm northwest of Buffalo Center. They immediately joinedth e Baptist Church in Buffalo Center. In 1907 they purchased the R.D. C ole farm southwest of Buffalo Center. They retired to Buffalo Center in 1922. Survived by his wife; son, Rev. and Mrs. Ernest Hook andthre e children, Margaret, Phillip and Paul of Adrian, Michigan; 2 brother s Arnold Hook of Columbus, Nebraska and Ernest Hook of Aplington, Iowa . An only sister, Mrs. Claus Smith of Windom, MN preceded him in 1933 . Funeral services were held July 31 at the Baptist Church in Buffal o Center, Iowa. He is buried in Olena Mound Cemetery, block 37, lot 8.
