John Lawrence attended Loving Schools and after graduating from CarlsbadH.S. he enlisted in the Army Air Corps as a flight cadet. He served as aB-17 bomber pilot (8th Air Force) during World War II in the EuropeanTheater; he was shot down over Berlin and was held by the Germans forover a year.
Returning home in 1945 he and his brother operated the family farm as alivestock feeding operation.
After marriage he purchased his family farm in 1958 and continued tooperate it with the help of their children as they were growing up.Lawrence and Virginia are active members of the Loving Methodist Church;and he is a member of the Eddy County Sheriff's Posse. He has beenactive in various farm organizations including the Carlsbad Growers Co-opwhere he served as manager.

Also may have been married on February 19, 1946 instead of the 21st.
