Striken Monday Night While Going Home From Up Town

Ray Fransen, a long time resident of Bryant, died suddenly Monday night at about 9:00 o'clock, while walking to his home from up town. The cause of his death was a heart attack. His body was found by Ray Campbell, about a half hour later. He had been up town during the early part of the evening and talked with several people and had not complained of feeling well. He started to go home from up town and stopped at the McAtee pop-corn stand, for a short while, and the cut across the street, west of the Corner Hardware. His body was found in front of the garage used by Baumbach's for their funeral hearse. The building is located just north of the Corner Hardware store. After finding the body Mr. Campbell notified MArshal Rice and Dr. Hickman was called and pronounced his death due to stroke. The body was removed to the Baumbach Funeral parlor.
Mr. Fransen has been a relief worker for the past several months and during the past week week he told fellow relief workers that he had not been feeling well on account of the intense heat. It is very possible that his sudden death was brought on by the effects of the heat, which caused the sudden heart attack. Mr. Fransen had been doing common labor work here for a number of years.
Ray Fransen was born in Holland. December 9, 1871, and emigrated to this country when a 16 year old boy, coming to Illinois, where he lived for a number of years, and also resided in other states before moving to South Dakota. He was married to Miss Ebbenga at Sibley, Iowa on August 19, 1905. He died at Bryant, South Dakota, July 23rd. 1934 at the age of 62 years, 7 months and 14 days.
He is survived by eight children: Mrs. M. J. Sebesta, Omaha, Neb.; Vera Fransen, Minneapolis, Minn.; Frank, Clara, Florence, Mildred, Delbert and Charles, who have been living at home. He is also survived by two brothers, John Fransen of Kerkhoven, Minn., and Thius Fransen of De Smet S. D., and one sister, Mrs Henry Snatter, Hollandale, Minn. His wife preceeded him in death on March 9, 1932. One sister died several years ago.
Funeral services were held at the Congregational church in Bryant, thursday morning, with the Rev. Nowell, pastor of the church in charge of the services. Special music was furnished by the Choir, with Mrs. B. U. Hestad as accompanist. He was laid to rest in Woodlawn cemetery.
