Op 23 april 1866 krijgt Jogchum Ykes Groen een paspoort uitgereikt als milicien bij het

regiment Infanterie.

 

Op dit paspoort is vermeld, dat Jogchum Ykes 1 el, 5 palmen, 7 duim en 5 streep lang is.

Zijn aangezicht wordt omschreven als ovaal, met een hoog voorhoofd, blauwe ogen, een

brede neus, grote mond, spitse kin en bruin haar.

 

Op zijn staat van dienst staat vermeld dat hij "op 29 april 1861 als milicien voor 5 jaar

is ingedeeld zijnde loteling van de ligting van 1861 uit de gemeente Opsterland, Friesland

onder no. 38.

 

Bij het paspoort is tevens een bewijs van goed gedrag gevoegd.

 

Jogchum Ykes was later onbezoldigd veldwachter, timmerman en had een winkel.

In de winter werd er over het algemeen weinig of niet betaald. Jogchum Ykes gaf

daarom tegen ruiling van een onderpand wel spullen uit. De panden werden in de schuur

opgeslagen, en in de zomer, als de klanten weer geld hadden, werd het pand weer ingeruild

tegen geld.
