Op 14-12-1905 kwamen op Ellis Island, met de Rotterdam Gerrit Bruins, 54 jaar, carpenter, en diens 23 jarige zoon Gerrit Jacobus Bruins aan, komende uit Hilversum. Als bestemming gaven ze Castleton (NY) op, waar een vriend woonde. Daar gingen zij ook wonen, maar voor 1909 verhuisden zij naar Albany (NY). Gerrits adres werd daar: Morrisstraat 50. Op 05-07-1906 werden ze gevolgd door Jacoba Bruins, vrouw van Gerrit, oud 51 jaar, en 2 dochters: Jacomyntje Bruins, 20jaar, en Gerarda Bruins, 16 jaar. Zij voerden op de Statendam. Met dezelfde boot kwam ook Petronella Oostveen mee, oud 23 jaar. Zij werd de vrouw van Gerrit Jacobus, die bij zijn aankomst in 1905 nog single was. Jacoba en Gerarda zijn kennelijk nog een keer terug geweest, want in 1909 kwamen zij nogmaals aan. Toen werd aangetekend, dat Jacoba in Amsterdam en Gerarda in Weesperkarspel geboren was. Hun naaste verwant in Nederland was ene Mr.Voornveld te Hilversum. (Familie van Jacoba?). Petronella is ook een keer terug geweest: in 1910 kwam zij weer aan als Petronella Bruins, vrouw van G.J. Bruins met 2 kinderen: Gerrit O.W. Bruins, 3 jaar, geboren in Castleton, en Willemyntje Jac. Bruins, 0 jaar geboren te Albany. Als naaste verwant in Nederland gaf zij op: Mr. O.W. Oostveen te Hilversum, haar vader, en als jaar geboorteplaats: Westbroek.
In 1921 kwam aan: Harm J. Bruins, 35 jaar, piano-voicer, geboren te Weesperkarspel, met zijn vrouw Tannetje, geboren te Goes, en 5 kinderen: Gerrit N.,9jaar, Nicolaas, 8 jaar, Harm J.,6 jaar, Maria, 5 jaar en Jacob, 2 jaar. Naaste verwant in Nederland: G. Bruins te Hilversum, broer; naaste verwant in U.S.:G.Bruins, West Ave, Albany (NY), vader. Ze kwamen uit Den Haag (waar de laatste vier kinderen geboren waren, Gerrit N. was in Goes geboren) en hadden als bestemming Albany.
(N.B.: hieruit blijkt, dat Gerrit in 1886 al in Weesperkarspel woonde. Hij zal er dus ook al wel gewoond hebben toen zijn broers Willem en Harm Jan zich daar in 1880 vestigden.)

Vertrekt in 1876 vanuit Zwollerkerspel naar Diemen. Komt met zijn gezin vanuit Nigtevecht op 03-03-1880 naar Weesperkarspel en vertrekt op 11-06-1897 naar Hilversum. Op 14-12-1905 samen met zijn Gerrit Jacobus aangekomen in Amerika; vestigde zich daar te Albany (NY).
