Op 24 oktober 1856 vertrekt Dirk Hermanus naar Ophemert (mil. Dienst).
Hij keert op 23 april 1857 weer terug (uit Varik) en huwt met Stijntje van Loopik (uit Haaften).
Dirk Hermanus woont samen met Stijntje van Loopik in één huis met de kinderen: Willem Brugman (geb 1859), Lammert van Oostrom (1850)
tussen 1900 en 1910 wonen Dirk Hermanus en Jantje in het huis Rietdijk A 63; in deze periode komen inwonen Maria Cornelia Johanna van Diggelen ("gekke Marie") en haar onechte zoon Paulus van Diggelen.

in de periode 1910-1920 woont Dirk Hermanus met vrouw Jantje in het huis Rietdijk A 87 later A 85; nog steeds met Maria en haar zoon Paulus, Maria blijft met haar zoon daar wonen na het overlijden van Dirk(27-10-1920) en Jantje (29-4-1912), echter zij vertrekt op 7 januari 1921 naar Oudewater en haar zoon Paulus gaat op die dag naar Ermelo.
