    He died at 6:45 PM. The official cause of death was "Herzscwache bei Sepsis" (inflammation of a weak heart). His grandson suspected that the camp executioner Dr. Schmitz injected him in the heart with poison Fenol. Dr. Schmitz used this method to practice euthanasia on weak prisoners. He also injected prisoners with different chemicals to induce different illnesses. Dr. Schmitz was convicted of war crimes in a American court of justice at Dachau and hanged on Nov. 26,1948.

Notes about Kornelus Baas

In the period from 1934 to 1939 he was a member of the CPN (Communist Party Netherland) in the town council of Oude Pekela. During the war he took care of shelter addresses and was involved in the publishing of the resistance magazine "Noorderlicht". On September 10, 1941 he was arrested by the Germans and deported to the concentration camp Buchenwald. After that he was brought to Dachau. On December 9, 1942 he was transported to camp Flossenburg in East Berlin.Kees Loer E-Mail of Nov. 19,2000.
