evenals zijn broer een prominent burger van Vriezenveen in zijn tijd, veelvuldig kerkmeester en sestiene (1740-1767). Heft zijn erf aan het uiteinde van het Westeinde 612 (huidige nummering). Is ingehuwd op het erf van zijn vrouw. In 1740 omvatte het erf 5 akkers land (bron: boterpachtregister).
In het register van de 1.000e penning van 1734 en 1739 komt Jan al met een vermogen van 2.000 gulden voor. Hij is net als zijn broer rond 1750 bij diverse processen betrokken, welke gericht waren tegen de almacht van de Heer van Almelo. Dat kostte kennelijk veel geld. In 1751 is zijn vermogen geslonken tot 1150 gulden. In 1758 is het overigens al weer gegroeid tot 1763 gulden (bron: diverse registers van de 1.000e penning Statenarchief van Overijssel).
