Het zal in 1986 zijn geweest zegt Doortje Segers, echtgenote van Jan Eussen en woonachtig in Hegge. In die tijd hielp ik mevrouw Ramakers de echtgente van de Opperwachtmeester van de Rijkspolitie bij het onderhoud van hun woning. Het waren toen al bejaarde mensen. Omdat ze gingen verhuizen ruimde we alle overtollige spullen op. Toen viel mijn oog op een met fluweel bespannen bord. Daarop prijkten allerhande zilveren platen. Al gauw bleek mij dat ik het koningszilver van de ter ziele gegagne schutterij van Thull in mijn handen hield. Och zei mevrouw Ramakers: " Wat moeten we daar mee, ruim maar op ". Omdat ik dacht dat zoiets bewaard moest blijven voor Schinnen, nam ik het mee naar huis en heb het al die jaren bewaard.
In de tijd dat de schutterij St. Sebastianus van Schinnen heropgericht werd kwamen we toevallig in gesprek met buurtgenoot Paul Potten, die bekend staat om zijn warm kloppend hart voor alles wat met historie te maken heeft. We besloten het zilver ter beschikking van de schutterij te stellen. Willie Gielen, de voorzitter, die werd gebeld was enkele uren later de trotse beheerder van dit historisch kleinood. Na mijn opmerking dat dit toch wel een bijzonder mooi gebaar was, komt het eenvoudige antwoord van Doortje:" Ach dat hoort toch zo, ik ben allang blij dat ik het zolang bewaard heb! " .
