Notes about Corneli(u)s Woestenberg(h)

Aanvankelijk werkte Cornelis in Alphen op de molen bij zijn vader. Vanaf 1784 was hij zelfstandig molenaar op de windkorenmolen in Lage Mierde. Hij was (in Alphen?) gehuwd, maar verloor zijn vrouw.

Als weduwnaar hertrouwde hij in 1795 met Anna Catharina BROUWERS en vestigde zich daarop in Tilburg, waar hij spoedig betrokken raakte in de politiek. Dat was in de tijd, waarin de katholieken na anderhalve eeuw van protestantse onderdrukking hun politieke rechten konden hernemen.
Cornelis, kaashandelaar en eigenaar van een grutmolen (Goeie Grutten!) was een typische vertegenwoordiger van de nieuw ontstane, relatief rijke middenstand. Hij vervulde allerlei politieke functies en vanaf 1813 wa hij gemeenteraadslid in Tilburg. In 1830 werd hij 'gecommiteerde in de municipaliteit' (wethouder) van Tilburg.
In verschillende boeken wordt de vooraanstaande rol van Cornelis WOESTENBERGH vermeld.
